"Rice and cereal"

On Tuesday Abby had "rice and cereal" for the first time! I know you're thinking, "Did Sarah misunderstand what she was supposed to feed her 4 month old? I thought she was an experienced mom?" Okay, we didn't really feed her "rice and cereal." We fed her rice cereal, but Anna calls it "rice and cereal." I had told Anna about a week ago that soon Abby would get to eat real food. I said she would have rice cereal after her baptism. (In my head thinking sometime after the baptism we would get to that.) Anna took it quite literally. Every time Abby reached for my plate in the following days Anna said, "No, Abby, no pizza for you. You have rice and cereal after your baptism." I'm not sure if Anna was disappointed that Abby didn't get her first bowl of "real" food right at the church, but she did seem excited to see Abby eat on Tuesday.

Abby loved her first meal! She slurped each spoon full right down and wiggled her arms in excitement as I got the next one ready.

I like "rice and cereal"!

Abby's Baptism

On Sunday Abby was baptized at St. Mark Catholic Church. It was a beautiful day and beautiful baptism. We got to celebrate afterwards with Nana, Uncle Pete, Grandma, Grandpa, and our good friends, Corinne, Rich, and Cornelia. We also had fun all weekend celebrating with our visitors :)

Dinosaurs!

Today we ventured into DC for our first trip back to a museum since Abby has been born. We chose the Natural History Museum because Anna has been interested in dinosaurs since reading about them in her Curious George books and seeing a science museum on the Curious George TV show. Anna wanted to head straight to the dinosaur room when we got to the museum, so that's what we did. Anna had a great time exploring that exhibit as well as searching the rest of the museum to, "find more dinosaurs!" She liked to ask, "What's this one's name?" and often said, "That's huge!"

First day of school!

Anna had her first day of preschool today! She went to the open house yesterday with Matt and today was her first full day. This morning we told her that today Dad was going to drop her off then we would all be back to pick her up. While she has been excited about preschool, she was a little nervous about this. In the car this morning she said, "Not go to school myself. It's scary." But as it turned out, she did okay. She was a little sad when Matt left, but she seemed happy by the time we picked her up. She brought a painting home. She told us that she chose raisins for snack instead of crackers. She also reported that the playground had two sides and monkey bars, but she didn't go on them today. We don't know much else. But we do know why our parents were always asking us, "What did you do in school today?"

4 month doctor's visit

Abby had her 4 month doctor's appointment this morning. She is now 14 pounds and 2 ounces. This is the 55th percentile. She is 25 inches long, which is the 75th percentile. The doctor said she's doing well!

Happy Birthday, Abby!

Abby is 4 months old today! Happy Birthday!!

Fun with friends :)

Before we headed off on vacation we had a fun night hanging out with Corinne and Michelle at our house. Michelle hasn't been on our blog before so I'll have to introduce her, but I'm not sure how. She's Corinne's friend from childhood, our new neighbor, my old pen pal, and our friends Elise and Andrew's Aunt.

And Corinne has a new title too - she's going to be Abby's godmother!

Thanks for visiting! We had a great time :)

Beach week with our grandparents :)

On Monday we got back from a week in North Carolina with Grandma, Grandpa, and Nana. Everyone had a great time! We all enjoyed the beach and pool. Matt & I enjoyed a few dates out to lunch and golfing. Anna & Abby had an especially fun time just playing around the house with their grandparents. Anna especially enjoyed playing hide-and-seek and playing with everything associated with going to the doctor (a Dora doctor book from Nana, a new doctor's kit from Grandpa, and a couple doctor figures that Grandma borrowed from a friend.)

Anna also proved to be quite a big girl this week, helping out a couple times. On the car ride down we left early in the morning - hoping both girls would go back to sleep. When Abby went back to sleep and Anna didn't, Anna helped out by staying quiet for over an hour! Finally she asked me a few questions. I said, "let's try to be quiet for a little while longer so Abby can sleep. She said, "I, I, I can't do it," in a voice filled with effort, but hoping not to disappoint me. I realized how hard she had to work to be so good - what a big girl. She also proved to be quite helpful to Nana & Grandma one day while they were taking care of Anna & Abby while Matt, Grandpa, and I went golfing. She brought toys to Abby on multiple occasions, explaining to Nana and Grandma, "I'm here to help!" She's getting to be so big sometimes I can barely believe it!

Here are a few highlights from the week:

Anna loved the "big waves" - especially when Daddy held her in them.

A fun trip to the pool where Anna & Abby had fun playing together :) Mommy held Abby while Daddy held Anna and we did "zooms" all over the pool.

Working on Anna's "shell pit"- a pool of water near the ocean that we built each day for storing collected shells and just chillin' out

Looks like someone else is going to like fruit as much as her big sister :)

Out to lunch in Southport :)

Despite what the picture portrays, both girls really had a good time at the restaurant!

The following pictures illustrate which of our girls is a little more amenable to posing for the camera right now:

Thanks for a great week, Grandma, Grandpa, & Nana! We feel well rested and ready to start our fall!
