Home, where I long to be

Mom and baby were discharged from the hospital yesterday. Here's a picture timeline of events:

Anna Banana!

She's been an absolute joy so far. We've found ourselves happy to just watch her sleep. And although every parents says this, Happiest Baby on the Block is an absolute godsend. Last night she was having a tough time of it getting to sleep, but I went right for the 5 S's and it worked like a charm (believe me, every current parent of an infant is nodding their head). Anna just loves being swaddled!

This afternoon, we're going to see the pediatrician, and then we may take a walk around the neighborhood and do some showing-off!

A Day in the Life

UPDATE: The baby has a father and there are pictures to prove it! See below.

So, Sarah went into labor around 9:30pm on Saturday and we went to the hospital around 1am. Anna was born at 11:54am on Sunday, so, all in all, it was a relatively quick labor. Sarah was in some discomfort some of the time, but after she got an epidural, by all accounts it went much easier than we had expected.

Right now we're at the hospital (rock on free wi-fi!) and Sarah and Anna are down at a breastfeeding class, so I'm taking some time to catch up on the many responses (and demands) we received after our mass email last night.

But I don't want to bore you with prose. I'm not naive or vain enough to think you give a hoot about what I think right now. Without further ado, some pictures. As I've noted in my emails, we have hundreds of pictures already (the digital age has led to some excesses...), so expect them to be coming up in batches over the next few days/weeks. (And since I'm only uploading photos from my camera, I don't currently possess a single shot of the child and me. Anna demanded it, there are now pictures of her and Dad.)

Ditto.

This was Sarah's chow-down after be allowed back on a sugar diet. Note how remarkably non-haggard she looks. She gave birth 45 minutes ago!

Pregnancy obsessions

Over the past 8 months I haven't been super active. The first trimester and part of the second I was too nauseous I started to feel better just in time for winter to arrive, and now that spring is here I'm once again happiest on the couch due to my size. Consequently, Matt & I have found a slew of obsessions that we can do from the couch - gin, football games (okay, so Matt is always obsessed with football), online poker tournaments, and a bunch of TV shows that, through Netflix, we can watch back-to-back episodes to our heart's content. This includes, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire, The Office, Entourage, and most recently Friday Night Lights. Apparently Friday Night Lights is a TV show, which is critically acclaimed, but gets low ratings. To say that I highly recommend it is probably an understatement. I think Matt & I watched all 37 episodes of season 1 & 2 in about a two week time period. I'm pretty sure we had a few days of withdrawal symptoms when we finished. There's an article about the series on Slate today, but my real recommendation is just to check out the pilot episode. If you belong to Netflix, you can watch it instantly without commercials, but if you don't, it is available to anyone instantly on the NBC web site (along with many other NBC TV shows). Now, I should mention that the show will not be resuming with new episodes until Jan. 2009 - so if you like it, try to spread out the first 37 episodes over more than two weeks :)

Baby Widget

Yesterday I was curious to see what the baby widget would say today.  I had thought maybe "1 day late" or "-1 days to go."  I was disappointed to see, "1 day to go."  I guess that means tomorrow I'll have "2 days to go."

It's a...

Taurus!

Now that the baby was not born before April 20th, it's guaranteed to be a Taurus - like Grandma (whose birthday is today - Happy Birthday!)  And I say guaranteed because there is no way this baby is sticking around inside until May 20th.  (Although my Grandma Onie might have been thinking the same thing when my mother was not born by March 21st (due date around then) - ah, a guaranteed Aries, but surprise, she stuck around until April 21st!)

I guess I started thinking about what astrological symbol our baby would be when I saw these cute little onesies at Baby Gap that had each of the astrological symbols on them.  As cute as they were, one has to wonder why, at the end of March, they had all 12 of them lined up in the front of the store.  Who's looking for a Scorpio onesie at the end of March?  Needless to say when I was back in the store 2 weeks later, they were gone. I don't think it's because they sold out.

Survey Results

Here are the results of the contest. Click on the image to enlarge it. A few people have already missed on the date. Note that the impending mother thought (hoped?) that the baby would be here Tuesday.

Given that there's no Plexico in the Glassman family, we think that Uncle Danny interpreted the first question to mean "What do you want the child to be named?" Sorry to disappoint, Dan, but we're going with either Elisha Tynes Glassman or Mathias Tuck Glassman.

You can still take the survey by clicking the link in the post below this one. However, we're not going to classify you as the winner if you get in now, having cheated by looking at everyone's answers, Corinne.

Baby Contest

So you think you have the sixth sense? Get out your crystal ball and let us know about our child:

UPDATE: The link was apparently broken for some people. Click here to take the survey.

After everyone takes the survey, we'll post the results. After the baby is born we'll see who has ESP.

Baby Bump Photo #21

Almost 38 weeks. Note that Sarah clearly has a favorite pair of pants for the last few weeks:
