Pregnancy obsessions

Over the past 8 months I haven't been super active. The first trimester and part of the second I was too nauseous I started to feel better just in time for winter to arrive, and now that spring is here I'm once again happiest on the couch due to my size. Consequently, Matt & I have found a slew of obsessions that we can do from the couch - gin, football games (okay, so Matt is always obsessed with football), online poker tournaments, and a bunch of TV shows that, through Netflix, we can watch back-to-back episodes to our heart's content. This includes, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire, The Office, Entourage, and most recently Friday Night Lights. Apparently Friday Night Lights is a TV show, which is critically acclaimed, but gets low ratings. To say that I highly recommend it is probably an understatement. I think Matt & I watched all 37 episodes of season 1 & 2 in about a two week time period. I'm pretty sure we had a few days of withdrawal symptoms when we finished. There's an article about the series on Slate today, but my real recommendation is just to check out the pilot episode. If you belong to Netflix, you can watch it instantly without commercials, but if you don't, it is available to anyone instantly on the NBC web site (along with many other NBC TV shows). Now, I should mention that the show will not be resuming with new episodes until Jan. 2009 - so if you like it, try to spread out the first 37 episodes over more than two weeks :)

  1. Great suggestion! That's how we were with Prison Break, right before Gabe was born!

  2. What about table tennis??? I was hoping you'd put that gift (specifically for this time) to use!

  4. Katie and I have been trying to get people to watch FNL for years! Definitely the best show on network TV. Tell your Nielsen friends to turn on their sets when they go out on Friday nights -- this show has been teetering on the verge of cancellation for quite some time.

I believe the episodes are also all online, by the way, as a cheap alternative.

We hooked up the computer to the TV and watched every episode of Lost, for example (arguably the second-best show on network TV), during the past few months.

Having a baby does this to you, I think -- you can't really go out, and with the kid going to sleep so early, the living room becomes your world.

I would also recommend Six Feet Under if you can get it from Netflix (we borrowed all the discs them from the library, which is also another nice cheap alternative). Best show on cable TV. We're eager to get into The Wire, though, as everyone says that's even better.

Anyway. We're eagerly awaiting news from you guys!
